The Douglas Foundation has made a major grant to The Heart Foundation, which supports the research of eminent cardiologist Dr. P.K. Shah. Founded in January, 1996, by friends and family of Steve Cohen, who died in December 1995 of sudden cardiac death, The Heart Foundation’s mission is to save lives by educating the public about heart disease, promoting early detection, and supporting the research of world-renowned cardiologists.
Dr. Shah is Director of the Division of Cardiology and Director of the Atherosclerosis Research Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, as well as Professor of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. His current research focuses on researching the cholesterol-lowering effects of the apo A-1 Milano gene and development of a vaccine to prevent arterial plaque build-up and heart attacks. This research has the potential to eliminate heart disease within the next five years.
